Young’s Memorials began operations in Regina in 1909. Over the years Young’s has become known for producing quality memorial products at competitive prices. Combining a vast network of dedicated overseas suppliers, Young’s Memorials can offer the best quality memorial products while still maintaining a personal and family-oriented atmosphere for all our clients.
Our present owner comes from a unique background which makes him especially qualified to craft the highest quality memorial products. Abraham Sun immigrated from mainland China to Canada in pursuit of opportunities and religious freedom denied him in the country of his birth. While working in China, Abraham envisioned and created a Bible-themed memorial park. The park also provides the setting for a copy of the first Christian missionary church that was established in that part of China. The original church stood in ruin having been destroyed during the ‘Boxer Rebellion’ at the close of 19th century. Factions who were opposed to the presence of a “western” religion actively sought to remove any evidence of its presence. Sadly, this activity drew the attention of government authorities who wished to suppress the influence of Christian principles and the freedom of expression associated with them. Mr. Sun was compelled to leave China or face continuing pressures to conform to government policies demanding that the Christian message be suppressed. Despite these challenges, Christianity remains alive in China today and this re-built church stands proudly within the park as a testimony to this fact.
Since moving to Canada, Mr. Sun has participated in a similar project here in Saskatchewan. A dedicated group of Christians in Rosthern Saskatchewan has undertaken to build a life-size version of the original tabernacle described in the old testament. When finished the tabernacle will serve as a tourist destination and educational site devoted to re- creating the original place of worship for the first Hebrews from which modern Christianity derives much of its history. Mr. Sun has donated the materials to complete this project.
More than just an owner of a memorial facility, Abraham Sun brings passion and dedication to his craft. His life’s experience has given him a deep personal understanding of the true purpose of a memorial. He is passing this legacy on to the next generation of memorialists. Young’s Memorials remains a family-owned operation committed to upholding and enhancing the tradition of quality memorialization in all forms. After more than a century, our work speaks clearly for itself.
